He sure didn't play like a 1974 rated player in the traxler

This game struck me as odd for a higher rated player.

    He sure didn't ;-)

A typical example of a player thinking that 5.Nxf7 will do the job, scaring his opponents into prompt resignation. Little did he know that 5.Nxf7 is outright bad for White. Even if he booked up some more. If i was rated 1974 and wanted to play the Traxler, i would have surely played 5.Bxf7. That is the move you want to play.

Yes bXf7 has given me alot of trouble but even whites king moves were poor for someone at this level. If you play Ng5 in this opening you can't rely on your opponent falling for the fried liver. you need to be booked up more.

Excuse my Guiocco ignorance.. but that looks like a fried liver gone bad for white.. what do you call this ... the Traxler?

    Nice Scalp!

The traxler counterattack aka wilkes-barre countergambit I think. Traxler played this game

You can learn more by googling traxler + chess. It is a fun line to play and if white takes f7 with knight, Black is in the driver seat. You will see other traxlers in past posts of mine as well.

    Good game.

    BTW, this is why I'm a d4 player. . .

    Jim

In order to get rid of your irrational fear of playing 1 e4, I
recommend starting an intensive tactical selfstudy course ............
