There exists an extremely large group of chess players who are no longer beginners nor, on the other hand, masters or point hunters, but players who aim primarily at deriving an aesthetic satisfaction from the game. I wonder if they screen participating players ahead of time. Could you imagine even a GM taking on a simul of 200+ players rated FIDE 2300 or higher?
